Tillett seats explained
Three things to choose: the shape, the rigidity and the size.
The all-rounder
58° seat angle. Tillett’s most popular shape — juniors through to seniors, 22 sizes up to about 130 kg.
Cadet & Mini
63° angle — more upright so 8–12 year olds keep good control. Small flat bottom.
Leg support
Extra support under the legs for small drivers — Bambino up to junior sizes.
Tall drivers
48° reclined seat for drivers over about 1.9 m — lowers the centre of gravity.
Rigidity — how much the seat flexes
A softer seat lets the kart flex more (more grip on low-power karts); a stiffer seat frees up a high-grip, high-power kart. Tillett’s class guide:
Fitting & set-up
A new seat doesn’t come with bolts. Here’s what most people add — the finder above suggests the right ones for your seat.
Check the fit (Tillett’s method)
- Sit in the seat in your race suit (and rib protector if you wear one).
- Feel the gap over the leg bone, the hip bone and down the length of the ribs.
- The gaps should be even — nothing loose and nothing pinching. Loose? Go down a size or pad it out. Pinching? Go up.
- Standard adult set-up is about 15 cm from the axle to the driver’s back (13.5 cm KZ, about 18 cm juniors). The seat shouldn’t sit more than 5 mm below the chassis tubes.

We keep a selection of Tillett seats at our Whilton Mill shop, but most stock is held at our Northampton warehouse. Call or message us before you come and we’ll make sure your size is there to try.
Seat questions
My size is out of stock — what now?
The finder shows the closest in-stock sizes of the same seat first — for example an S WT (wide top) when the S is out. If you need your exact size, most seats can be ordered in from Tillett; we’ll confirm the lead time when you order.
I’m between two sizes
Order both and send back the one that doesn’t fit — returns are free within 30 days, no printer needed. A seat that’s slightly big can be padded out; one that pinches can’t be fixed. Adults: jeans waist size is the best single guide.
Which rigidity should I choose?
Go by your class: VTi for Bambino/Mini/Cadet, VG for Rotax, t for X30/OK/KZ, Standard for club and 4-stroke. Your chassis and conditions matter too — ask us if you’re unsure.
Do I need a fitting kit?
Yes — seats come without bolts. Low-profile bolts won’t wear holes in the race suit or rib protector, and nylon spacers stop the seat being twisted when it’s bolted up.
Can I try a seat at Whilton Mill?
Yes, but please call or message us first. Most seat stock is at our Northampton warehouse, so we’ll make sure the sizes you want to try are at the Whilton Mill shop.
Should I size the seat with my rib protector on?
Yes. If a thick rib protector pushes you up a size and leaves gaps at the hips, Tillett VH hip pads fill them.
