Bella Fricker|

In this edition of the KKC Karting Driver Interview Series, we're excited to introduce Jacob Underhill, a talented young karting driver with an impressive track record. At just 11 years old, Jacob has already established himself as a fierce competitor in Club100 and UKC events. From his first race at the age of five to his growing success in the sport, Jacob’s passion and dedication are clear.

We’re thrilled to announce that Jacob Underhill, a rising star in the world of karting, has joined the prestigious Go Motorsport Management Junior Driver Development Programme. This programme is designed to identify and nurture the next generation of motorsport talent, equipping drivers with the skills they need both on and off the track to progress seamlessly to the next level of the sport. Go Motorsport Management already manages the careers of established drivers competing in cars, and now, Jacob is among the exciting new talents they’re backing.

How Jacob Got Started in Karting

Jacob's journey into karting began when he was only five years old. Inspired by his dad, who raced in BPEC and Club100, Jacob was keen to give karting a try. "I really enjoyed going to my dad's races, and it made me want to have a go myself," Jacob explained. "My first go was at Daytona MK, and I soon moved on to a Bambino test with JDR and the Whilton Juniors."

Career Highlights So Far

At such a young age, Jacob has already achieved a great deal in karting. He’s won multiple Club100 Cadet races, earned podium finishes at events like Shenington, and placed 9th in his first Rotax Inter race at UKC GYG. "Racing at Shenington as a novice and landing an overall podium was a huge moment for me," Jacob shared.

In 2024, Jacob finished the final two rounds of the UKC as a novice, securing top-ten finishes in both.

Looking Ahead to the 2025 Season

With the 2025 season underway, Jacob has set his sights on winning the Club100 championship. "It’s going to be tough, but I’m giving it everything I’ve got," he said. Jacob is also focusing on improving his qualifying skills in Club100 to ensure he’s always at the front of the Pre-A finals.

His long-term goal? To race at Kartmasters and continue progressing in the Rotax Inter category.

Racing Against Rory: A Friendly Rivalry

Jacob has a friendly rivalry with fellow driver Rory, which has helped both drivers improve. "We’ve raced against each other for a few years now," Jacob explained. "We push each other hard, and it's made us both better drivers. Rory's great at racecraft, but I back myself on pace. I focus on qualifying well, staying calm, and running my own race."

Favourite Tracks and Motorsport Inspirations

Jacob’s favourite track is Glan-Y-Gors in North Wales, a place where he earned his first A final win and finished 9th in his first owner race weekend. "It’s a special track for me," Jacob said.

When it comes to motorsport inspiration, Jacob looks up to Fernando Alonso. "I think Alonso is a fantastic racer. He's consistent and can drive anything. Plus, he loves karting, which I really admire."

Pre-Race Routine

On race days, Jacob’s routine is about staying relaxed and focused. "I wake up early, have a small breakfast of cereal and a cup of tea, then walk the track with my friends. A quick kick-around helps me stay calm before the racing begins."

Advice for New Karting Drivers

For young drivers just starting out in karting, Jacob has some solid advice: "Try local indoor tracks first, and when you feel comfortable, look into Club100. They’re a great starting point in kart racing. The most important thing is to enjoy yourself and make new friends along the way."

The Team Behind Jacob

Jacob has been a part of Jack Dex Racing from the very beginning. "Jack Dex Racing has helped me since the start, and I’m really grateful for everything they’ve done."

Sponsors and Support

Jacob is supported by some key brands that help him on his karting journey, including:

  • JS Racing Tuition
  • UserCentrix
  • Demon Tweeks Motorsport

Looking Ahead

Jacob Underhill is certainly a young driver to keep an eye on. With his focus, dedication, and talent, we’re sure we’ll be seeing more of him on the podium in the future. We look forward to seeing what the 2025 season has in store for him.

Stay tuned for more interviews in the KKC Karting Driver Series as we continue to celebrate the passion and talent within the karting community.
