The New Standard in Karting Safety
From 1 January 2025, FIA 8877-2022 is the latest homologation standard for karting suits, gloves, and boots. It replaces the older CIK-FIA Level 1 & 2 standards and sets higher levels of protection, comfort, and performance for karting competitors.
What is FIA 8877-2022?
- Two Grades of Protection
- Grade 1: Designed for short-circuit karting.
- Grade 2: Required for long-circuit karting, with increased abrasion resistance.
- Improved Safety Features
- Stronger abrasion resistance
- New contact heat resistance (must withstand 100°C for 10 seconds)
- Defined “exemption zones” for stretch and comfort without reducing safety
- Futureproof Compliance
- Required for FIA international karting competitions from 2025
- By 2030, all racewear must be FIA 8877-2022 homologated
